Worship Leader Job Description

Steadfast Church is a new church plant in Charlotte, NC dedicated to being a family of disciples committed to gospel-centered worship, tight-knit community, and life-giving hospitality for the glory of God. The church is associated with the Evangelical Free Church of America (EFCA) and the Harbor Network.

Purpose:

To collaborate with the Lead Pastor and ministry leaders to lead the congregation in gospel-centered worship through music in our weekly gatherings.

Qualifications:

This person must be a follower of Christ and committed to the local church. The candidate must be a proficient vocalist to lead congregational singing and lead musically from one instrument (preferably a guitar or a piano). This person must gladly participate in the life of the congregation and submit to pastoral oversight.

Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Lead Pastor and elders in planning the weekly worship gathering.
  • Plan and prepare songs for the weekly gathering while coordinating with other musicians as necessary.
  • Help recruit, train, and develop musicians and vocalists within the congregation.
  • Be a willing participant in ministry leadership development as directed by church leadership. This development would include training on: the gospel, the Bible, liturgy, spiritual disciplines, and more.
  • Participate in staff/elder meetings as necessary.
  • Help with sound engineering, set up and tear down, and other misc. ministry duties as necessary.

The Right Fit:

We strongly believe in the power of ritual and liturgy and the formational power of corporate worship. The worship service informs and reinforces to our congregation the power of prayer, lament, confession, assurance, Scripture, hospitality, and mission. The worship leader of our church serves a crucial role in ensuring this sort of ministry occurs on a Sunday morning and beyond. Additionally, we strive to be a church that nourishes creativity, imagination, and the arts. The worship leader will be a foundational leader in establishing such a culture.

For the past nine months, we’ve been mostly meeting in a backyard for our worship gathering. When the weather does not cooperate, we meet indoors at a partner church. In 2021, we hope to find a semi-permanent indoor space to meet in for weekly worship. Most of our gatherings, thus far, have been led in worship by one person playing guitar and singing. We have several talented vocalists and musicians who have contributed to our corporate worship. There’s a budding team ready to be deployed and developed. Additionally, we have some outside friends who help with worship as needed. Our music diet includes both hymns and contemporary songs (you can see and listen to the songs we’ve sung here.) We have some songwriters in the congregation as well and hope to be able to write and lead some original music in the future.

The ideal candidate for this job would be someone who wants to be a valued member of our congregation. This person would also love the opportunity to help build and develop a worship ministry while collaborating with others. The role has some flexibility and could be developed as a contract position, a part-time position, or an intern position. Further assistance with housing and seminary is available depending on the qualifications and fit of the candidate.
