Steadfast Church is a 4-year old church plant in Matthews, NC. Our purpose is to be a “family of disciples committed to gospel-centered worship, tight-knit community, and life-giving hospitality for the glory of God.” We are affiliated with the Evangelical Free Church of America, Harbor Network, and The Gospel Coalition.
Worship Leader
Purpose:
To collaborate with the Lead Pastor and ministry leaders to lead the congregation in gospel-centered worship through music in our weekly gatherings.
Qualifications:
This person must be a follower of Christ and committed to the local church. The candidate must be a proficient vocalist to lead congregational singing and lead musically from one instrument (preferably a guitar or a piano). This person must gladly participate in the life of the congregation and submit to pastoral oversight.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate with the Lead Pastor and elders in planning the weekly worship gathering.
- Plan and prepare songs for the weekly gathering while coordinating with other musicians as necessary.
- Help recruit, train, and develop musicians and vocalists within the congregation and create volunteer schedules for worship gatherings.
- Be a willing participant in ministry leadership development as directed by church leadership. This development would include training on: the gospel, the Bible, liturgy, spiritual disciplines, and more.
- Participate in staff/elder meetings as necessary.
- Help with sound engineering, set up and tear down, and other misc. ministry duties as necessary.
Expectations and Policies:
- The Worship Leader will be salaried and not hourly. There is no retirement, health insurance, or computer provided for this position.
- The Worship Leader will submit to a yearly background check along with all pastors, elders, and church leaders.
- The Worship Leader is expected to be present every Sunday unless vacation or other absences have been planned and approved by the Lead Pastor.
- Assuming ample worship volunteers, the Worship Leader should not have responsibilities on stage and should be able to attend the worship gathering as a congregant every 6-8 weeks. The Worship Leader can be absent from Sunday services five times/year. Additional absences must be approved by the Lead Pastor.
- The Worship Leader will be reimbursed for mileage related to church business including meetings, lunches, and rehearsals. Sunday gatherings and other community-related trips will not be reimbursed.
- The Worship Leader will expense or be reimbursed for lunches and refreshments related to meetings with church members and volunteers. Church expenses are expected to be paid with the church credit card. Alcohol purchases will not be expensed or reimbursed. Logging church expenses and mileage reimbursements in Expensify should be submitted during the month of expense. Reimbursements will not be fulfilled for any purchase from a previous calendar year.
- The Worship Leader has no budgetary line items to manage but will work with the Lead Pastor to coordinate purchases related to the worship ministry.
Weekly Tasks and Practices:
- The Worship Leader is expected to have a weekly phone or in-person meeting with the Lead Pastor to discuss weekly worship service and other church-related matters.
- Songs should be selected by Wednesday of each week and entered into Planning Center. Volunteer reminders and song selections should be sent by Wednesday of each week to the scheduled volunteers. When applicable, a weekly rehearsal should be scheduled.
- Slides for ProPresenter should be created each week and uploaded to the church’s Google Drive.
- The Worship Leader should show up each Sunday with Planning Center flow sheets as well as any chord/lyric sheets the volunteers may need.
- The Worship Leader should show up early each Sunday (at least by 8:30am) for setup and rehearsal. The goal is for rehearsal to start by 9:00am each Sunday.
- The Worship Leader should assist with tear down and closing each week unless otherwise excused by the Lead Pastor.
